NY Gov. Paterson Asked Cuomo not to Apply


New York Governor Paterson announced the new senator for the post vacated by Secretary of state Hillary Clinton. His appointee, Kirsten Gillibrand, promised to cultivate support upstate complementing the Governor's traditional New York City support base. Mr. Paterson passed over the candidate who polled highest in recent opinion polls, Andrew Cuomo. The governor was quoted: "I didn't want to have another issue of filling a vacancy."
